GreatSchools: can i apply for middle school in Manhattan and Brooklyn?

My child lives in manhattan but wants to go to a school in Brooklyn which I visited and was accepted by the principal. The Principal said we can apply and living in Manhattan is not a problem. However, someone from the DOE DOE said I have to live in Brooklyn.

Do I need to fill out 2 applications?

What is the best way to go about this. Alhtough she wants the school in Brooklyn, I am keeping her options open in Manhattan.

Huh, it's usually the other way around, people in Brooklyn want to go to a Manhattan school...In general, if a school is popular they will give first preference to kids ...
