http://community.greatschools.net/advice/369/Summer-Learning-Tips <p>One great way I find to keep my son motivated in learning during summer break is that I have enrolled&nbsp;him in an&nbsp;after-school supplemental education program. There is no summer break with this program. He attends the school on Mondays and Thursday and has homework everyday of the week on top of the regular homework from school. &nbsp;Here he &nbsp;is taught both reading and math. He started right before he went into Pre-k 4 at the age of 4 and it has come along way. He will now be going into Kinder garden being able to count to 200 and add as well .He also has a&nbsp; head start in reading.&nbsp;He is on Summer break&nbsp;from public school, &nbsp;but not from his after school education program were he continues to go with the motivation to learn over the summer. One example is that&nbsp;&nbsp;we have a summer reading log were we can choose from different books from the library to check out. This is one of the ways we use our summer days as an exciting outing to spend together . We pick a day out of the week to go to the local library and&nbsp; he chooses a few books from his reading log. We then go home and right before going to bed he is excited to read a book that we brought home.&nbsp;I think that by having him on a consistent basis attending his after school curriculum through out the year it comes a long way because it not only advances him at his own pace, but also keeps him motivated in learning.</p> GreatSchools en-us bookreader4 I remember how fun trips to the library were when I was a child!
