Though the year has already started, hope this helps.
Our daughter spent two years in preschool locally. The first year we chose Grace Lutheran Preschool because they had a wonderful program that got her socialized and confident in being with other kids, as well as basic skills necessary for kindergarten.
After a year, she could do most/all of the skill set offered by the school, so we looked and chose Sunrise Baptist Preschool because they had more of an academic environment. In particular, they use the same ZooPhonics system used at Blaine Primary's kindergarten program. By the end of the year, our daughter was reading at about 2nd grade level and doing basic addition, subtraction and had the foundation for multiplication (counting by 2's, 3's, etc). Lots of extra-curricular activities as well.
Both schools have incredibly gifted teaching staffs.
She is now three weeks into kindergarten and loving it!
As an aside, depending on your child's confidence level, getting him/her into some kind of sports program could be an added bonus. We have been doing Taekwondo for about two years now as a family, and for our daughter, at 5, is taking leadership of some of the new kids that come into the program - leading by example. Awesome to see as a parent.... the only thing is that her kicks are much better than mine!!
