My son has been in the Houston independent school district since he started school. He now attends Walt rip high school and is finishing the ninth grade. The teachers and guidance counselors have been wonderful to my son and he loves the school. He is a avid athlete in both football and basketball and the coaches have been terrific. We have no problem with our son attending a HISD school.
Yes, as db4regnick says, she is pleased with the school there, my kids where going to the Cypress Fairbank schools and I was pleased with their curriculum, very challenging, we came from Cypress,TX to here to California, my kids had a to be put in advance classes here because they were ahead of the class.
Our family moved here a year ago and my kids are enrolled in the Clear Creek ISD. I love it. Everyone at my sons' schools were nice and made my kids and myself feel welcome. I agree with olivial, the teachers, programs and parent involvement is awesome. Coming from Ca., I was extremely pleased with the curriculum (my sons had to catch up to what was being taught). My sons' attend Northpointe and Clear Brook
No doubt, there are good, challenging schools out there. I was addressing the specific concept of meeting the needs of the gifted child. Providing challenge is only one aspect. A program should include qualified teachers, social and emotional issues, acceleration, mentors, etc.
If you are looking for a school that is challenging, there are a lot of schools in Houston that have challenging curriculums and are very good schools. It depends on the area.
