I would say If you are working near the down town or medical center the best school in Houston is Bellaire high school but you can drive little more Memorial high school is also great we moved to memorial just because the work moved towards west side we loved Bellaire High School ,Teachers ,Principal ,PTo everything But I love memorial too very good school great curriculum, great kids ,teachers PTO everything is good here too so it just depends what work best for your family .For our point of view these are great schools near the town.
We had one kid in Westchester on the West side in the drama program and were very unhappy with the whole thing. We weren't expecting them to become academy award winners, but when dropping off at the required time I would have to wait with the kid regularly for about an hour until a teacher showed up, and upon pick up one time, seeing them all hanging out outside the building on the school steps unsupervised at 10:00 at night, I started arriving early and noticed they were never kept until the scheduled pick up time, missing it by 30 min to an hour regularly. I didn't like the idea of my 14 year old outdoors with no adults late at night, especially after hearing about drug and alcohol abuse that went on amongst the kids, and when I brought this up to the instructor, was told once the rehearsal was over, the kids were no longer her responsibility. So I started spending two hours of my time each rehearsal waiting with my child until the teacher and friend of hers would show up, and through the end of the rehearsal to be there when I needed to bring my kid back home. Needless to say, our next highschooler, we enrolled at Stratford and have been much much happier with the level of education and responsibility.
For me, I was happy in the high school my daughter was going to, she was happy and the school has a high curriculum and very challenging, if the school is one of the best rated, then there is nothing bad about it. Unfortunately, I had to move to another state and changed my kids to another school which now I regret because they are not as challenging and my kids are not to happy.
