Mossy Oaks Elementary has ranked among the top 3 schools in northern Beaufort County for more than 20 years. While it has not always been #1, it has never been less than 3rd. The principal and assistant principal are former teachers at the school, and many staff have been there for more than 15 years. This is a school that does not have a problem getting great substitutes for staff, whilch says a great deal about the school's administrators. This school is on one level, making it very handicap friendly. The building and grounds have been recently rennovated, and most classrooms have their own bathroom. The school cafeteria is open to students at 7:30 am, a help if you have to be at work at 8am. The school has a gifted and talented program and a special needs program
. Extracurricular activities include Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Cup Stackers, Strings, Reading Club, Encouragers Club and others. PTO is active, and annually contributes $$ though fundraising activity. Scholastic Book Fairs are held, and a Secret Santa store providing free gift wrap and modestly priced items (not junk) area available for the children. My child spent $20 at Secret Santa last year and bought gifts for12 people.
