My children all attend public schools in Newtown and I have been very pleased with their academic and extra-curricular offerings. One of the primary reasons most people live in Newtown is the quality of the public schools. Based on conversations with other parents in the area, sending your children to private schools in Newtown is really accepting a "double taxation". You are already paying taxes for excellent public schools yet you choose to additionally pay tuition for private schools. I do have several neighbors who send their children to private school for kindergarten...only because it offers an all-day option. All of them intend to have their kids transfer to the public schools in first grade. You may choose to send your student to private school for religious reasons but there really is not an academic need to do so.
