We moved to the Cary area in 2007 and have three children. Two who are academically gifted and one with special needs. If your children fall out of the "norms", I have found Wake County has a difficult time meeting their needs no matter where they are placed.

The schools with the best reputations are Leesville Schools, Green Hope, Durant and Broughton. Davis Drive is highly acclaimed, but my experiences do not equivocate. Hope this helps!

There is one centralized 'school district' that encompasses Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Holly Springs, Garner, Wake Forest, Knightdale, Rolesville, etc. The Wake County Public Public School System (www.wcpss.net) serves the entire area in and around Raleigh.

Within this district you will find base schools to which you are assigned (or reassigned), and magnets to which you must apply (and be accepted) in order to be allowed to attend. Some addresses will have a choice between an assigned traditional calendar base school or a year-round base school, some will be assigned only to a year-round. There are also several Charter schools in the area, public schools, but these each operate as their own individual 'district' of one school, you apply to them individually & provide transportation.

Schools within WCPSS that have the best reputation: Hunter, Ligon, Martin, Enloe (magnets), Leesville schools, Broughton, Sanderson, Davis Dr, Green Hope, Wakefield (base schools), Brassfield, Durant (year-round) + these public charter schools: Magellan, RCHS, Franklin Academy, Woods Academy

I think West Cary area/Morrisville- specifically Davis Drive.
