Mat's Mom-
Sorry you did that...
Most of the faculty and staff are related in the Spackenkill District-a definate sign! Spackenkill had one bright shine star- she ended up having an affair with one of her high school teachers and planned on running away with him- check the Poughkeepsie Journal for more details. Spackenkill is a nasty little district where they pick and choose who will succeed and who won't-
I was speaking with a Spackenkill parent yesterday who was very upset because her even though her child has passed all of her classes and exams, has to now attend summer school because of issues with the curriculum. The way it was explained to me is that they ended up being a year behind where they were supposed to be - I do not know if this was just their class or the whole elementary school - but I was surprised to hear about this.
The Arlington school district claims that they teach above what is required by the state. I moved into the district because of their claim that they have a "gifted and talented" program which they do not.
Spackenkill is supposed to be "excellent." I was told by my daughter's teacher that more than half the students here are tutored outside of school-beginning in kindergarten where approximately 1/3 seek outside help. Also many of the teachers tutor after school, on the side. I've come to realize that most schools are the same-just in this area, we can afford to send our kids to tutors.
