A good website to go to is the insideschools.org site. It is run by a group called Advocates for Children. It lists ALL the NYC public schools and gives pertinent info. regarding each school such as size of school, classroom size, %age of teachers with advanced degrees, average # of years teachers remain at the school, reading and math scores of the most recent standardized tests... It also tells of any special programs each school has. It has been an invaluable resource to me and also features commentary from parents, and students. The NYC Board of Ed also has a website that seems to be more of a proganda tool but it does give you invalluable info. on upcoming programs and info such as how to apply for gifted and talented programs ect. -The bottom line is the school must be a good fit for your child and nothing beats parental involvement. Good Luck!
