I have found that with enough leg work and advocacy skills, one can achieve through the public, magnet and charter school system plus local resources compareable results with private school achievements, including extra curricular activities. All too often parents seem so gungho to show their support and interest in their kids education by simply throwing money at it, instead of time and attention. So then the private schools seem to end up doing a little more of the parenting than I think is appropriate. That is a generalization, I know, and isn't always applicable. A few private schools and some publics schools will show that the gap between private and public is greater than I have pictured here. But that is my basic view of how they compare.
