If you are considering a preschool, make it SRNS: This is my third child going through this wonderful preschool program. It is a 2 hour & 45 minute session; you can either choose the AM (9:00-11:45) or the PM (12:30-3:15) class. It is an optional co-op program. Optional, being you can pay extra not to participate. However, if you choose to participate, it is not your normal cooperative school. From my understanding, many co-op's require a parent's daily/weekly participation, Smoke Rise does not. There are 3 main requirements involved. First, you agree to be on a committee, depending on your schedule, you may want to pick a program with little involvement to being very involved. Second, you are given approximately 1-2 weeks where you are on a substitution list and a cooking list; whereas if a teacher is sick or the school is cooking that week you will need to come in, if not, you don't. Lastly, approximately once a month, SRNS offers a class trip, in which a parent can attend with their child, make arrangements for another parent to bring your child or you can choose not to send your child to school that day. One of my favorite parts of the school is their mirror room; this is a room where the parent can look through a 2 way mirror to watch the class being conducted. Many parents enjoy being an integral part of their child's education right from the start and the children enjoy seeing their parent's involved. SRNS provides a well-rounded preschool experience in an atmosphere that fosters emotional, social, physical and cognitive development. Right now, SRNS only offers a shortened session program, but their future goal is to expand their hours and days to fit most anyone's schedule. I highly suggest if you live in the area to come and check out this unique program. For more information contact S.R.N.S. at 973/838-9088. Registration sign up, I believe, is this Thursday, January 29th.
