If I was moving to St. Louis, these are the districs I would consider: Ladue, Clayton (but as someone said, most people can't afford a decent sized house in these areas), Kirkwood, Lindbergh, Webster Groves, Parkway (West and South) and Rockwood (which includes Marquette High, Rockwood Summit High, Lafayette High and Eureka High). These consistentently score the highest in the area and state, are all in great areas and are centrally located.
Reputation is one thing but the school that best fits your child is quite another. Sure the Ladue and Clayton districts have a great reputation. But, not everyone can afford to live in those school districts where median home prices are far above average. As a parent you have to consider the cost/benefit of living above your means so that your child can attend those schools. Don't rule out the St. Louis Public Schools which have some very good Elementry Schools. My child attended Stix, a Magnet school, and I couldn't have been more pleased. Not only was the school diverse in race and class, but the services offered were excellent. My child started at that school at 3 years old and continued through 2nd grade. She was more than prepared to pass the entrance exam for the "gifted" elementry school, Kennard.
The Ladue, Chesterfield, and Parkway districts are good ones. The Pattonville district is pretty good as well.
