Go to the website, www.slps.org, and you will find answers to your enrollment questions (what's required, transfer vs. new student, etc.) Now, as far as the "inside scoop" is concerned, I have to agree with "slpsparent" ...you should also be aware that the Public Schools do not have State accreditation at this time.
They need to know that schools in St. Louis are not neighborhood based. In other words, just because you live within blocks of an appropriate school for your child does not mean your child will be enrolled in that school. St. Louis has public schools, charter schools and magnet schools. All are public schools operating with public funding but under 3 different sets of rules. My children attend Magnet schools. St. Louis advertises a "lottery" selection process for Magnet schools. I'm not sure that's 100% accurate. One of the goals of Magnet schools is to diversify the schools. Which means that if a school's enrollment is 70% black and 30% white/other, then students that fall into the white/other category will be selected over a black student. Hope all that makes sense.
