It dramatically depends the district, and the private school. In the Kansas City area private schools are over run with students that have been kicked out of public school so many times that the parent has no choice but to enroll them into private. On the other hand some school districts are excellent while if you drive 20 minutes in one direction or the other the schools in that district are not even ranking half of the national average on test scores. Missouri over all is in dire need of a complete overhaul of the educational system.
The public schools overall probably could not compete with the average private schools test scores based off numerous factors. I would think that public schools rate aproximately slightly below the average and private slightly above average in National test scores
