I would make sure the school is licensed and accredited. Visit the school during the hours your child will be there. Look for lesson plans posted on a parent board along with a schedule, menu, emergency evacuations plans, etc. Are there centers? Is the center clean? Check the bathrooms. Make sure it is stocked full of soap and disposable towels. How many assistants are there? Are the teachers certified and consistent in the classroom? Do they integrate a Project Construct style of teaching? Do they know what it is? Are the teachers interacting with the children at their level? Are they screaming across the room or speaking close to them? Do you see art work posted on the walls? Do they look exactly the same or unique in each child’s own creation? How do they discipline the children? Do you believe in time out? Do they practice time out or redirect and effectively teach a child compassion? Is the Director present at all times? Do they always have at least two teachers outside at a time during recess? If not, what do they do when a child gets hurt?
These are just a few things I would look for.
