I HIGHLY recommend Washington Elementary. It is a public charter school that follows the Core Knowledge curriculum based on the "What Your _st Grader Needs To Know" books by E.D. Hirsch. The parents are very involved, the teachers are all wonderful and incredibly committed as they chose to teach at Washington specifically, and the huge emphasis on character development means the school has a totally different atmosphere than anything else in Rochester. Check out the reviews here or ask if you have any more questions! :)
full disclosure: I'm a former Washington student. My parents and several other parents were dissatisfied with the offerings in Rochester and got Washington up and running as a CKS charter school when I was in 4th grade. I feel so strongly about Washington that I volunteered there about 8 hours each week through high school and continue to volunteer there when I am in town. Every Washington "alum" I have kept in contact with feels the same way, and many of them volunteer there as well!
