I have four children who attended preschool. From my experiences with varying preschools at differing distances from our house, I found that it is more important to select a reasonably good one nearby than an excellent one farther away. Be sure to visit several to determin the differences between them and which ones have the same values as you. And even more important is the actual caregiver/teacher who will work with your child...that person has full control of the situation, which may or may not be the same as what is spouted off in a meeting with the staff/administrators of the school.
I asked friends and family, searched on the internet, and finally decided on a few schools to go visit. One school allowed me to come observe but I could not bring my son. I found there program a bit rigid for my son. The school I ended up selecting (Children's Learning Center in Rockville) invited me to visit with my son anytime. My son loved it immediately and I liked the fact that it was structured but not rigid. The school is very big on learning through play. They also have before and aftercare and are very flexible with schedules.
