Hamilton E/M School in Hamilton is a really wonderful city school. They have a fantastic science program, they have an amazing arts program, and they outperform almost all other K-8 schools in the city (and county). More than 80% of their kids were proficient on the MSA. GreatSchools most recent test data is more than a year old. Medfield Heights and Holabird Academy are also both fantastic. I would believe the hype about RP. It's easy to have a "great school" when more than half your kids are magneted in through a GT program.
Villa Cresta Elementary-the best PTA,wondeful teachers, always there to help & even though it's in Parkville (not so great) Villa Cresta doesn't fit in with the rest of Parkville-BUT IN A GOOD WAY!!!
Roland Park Public School in the City is suppose to be really good. For some reason most of the teachers have their kids in that school. Towson has some great elementary schools also.
My child is in first grade at Westchester ES (Baltimore Co.). We love it! The teachers are very experienced... they give you constant feedback on your child's progress... The K teacher identifed issues with our child early and we are in an IEP now. Everyone on teh IEP team is caring, very involved, and actively makes changes to help my son. There is huge parent volunteer involvement with an incredibly active PTA. And, WES is part of a solid school system. The other thing that I really liked when choosing WES was that with the current zoning. EVERY kid from WES will move to Catonsville MS and then to Catonsville HS. The friendships my son makes in ES will carry through to graduation!
Any school that has a strong PTA and parent involvement is going to be a great school. How do you define "great"?
