I agree with GrtSchlsMom. The private schools are awesome, from what i hear from co-workers. But, on the downside, they are VERY expensive. There are some public schools that are very good, however. You have to look hard for the "diamond in the rough".

I use to live in Baton Rouge came from Calif schools. My daughter went to both private and public in Baton Rouge. You really need to do research on any public school you send your child to there, they are not the best rated schools and kids can end up being behind at another school should you move again. I also have to say the well known private school "Parkview Baptist" is very over rated. My daughter was told BY the 1st grade teacher that the devil was in the mud and they needed to stay out of it! I was floored and furious at the same time. Then the 2nd occurrance was when the teacher said to the kids that god would punish them if they were bad. On Memorial Day, the kids go to school there!!!! R U KIDDING ME! They do not respect the holiday for all of the veterans who fought for our freedom, yet they give the kids a whole week of for Mardi Gras!!! That's right! I wrote a letter to the school and pulled my daughter out of there! Most people I talked to when I lived there just talked about what a great school it was! Ignorance is bliss.

How they contrast would be a better question. In my opinion there isn't much comparison.
