We actually started with a preschool/childcare program when our son was 4 monthes old - we chose Kindercare. Despite the expense, it has been well worth it. First, security was high. Second, there is a terrific curriculum starting in the toddler room and extending into the school age program (which runs during the summer).
My son was way ahead of many of the other children when he started kindergarten - which I attribute partly to the learning program at Kindercare. As an only child, he also has a bunch of "foster siblings." At age 9, he still attends a few days after school each week and in their Summer Adventures program.
