However in 2005, there were some problems. First, my daughter transferred from a local private school but it was OBVIOUS that Hanover and the local school administration (in hanover district) had NOT talked...the Right Hand did not know that the Left Hand was doing. I had to talk Hanover counselors into letting my daughter skip the intro to Computers course; they had NO IDEA my daughter's school had been working on computers...! Her teacher was resentful, but my daughter reported that the teacher soon realized she knew her computer.
(I blame both schools equally...I should also have done more of my own reasearch too.) NO tour of Hanover was offered my daughter---and any other pre-Hanover 8th graders, for instance. Thus, they also lost out on registering for classes along with the other indistrict kids who went to the public schools.
This review does not allow even an OBLIQUE citing of a bad teacher...but there was one. A DISASTER to have this teacher (who apparently resented being there and had a POOR teaching style) for my daughter. (However all other teachers rank from average to excellent...)
The building (overall) is in good to great condition. It took FOREVER for the town of Cedar Lake to finish the entrance road outside, but finally one can easily enter and exit the school.
When we first came, it was hard to figure out what extracurricular activities were offered. That could be made clearer when people register.
Some problems above may well be fixed in 2009 for new freshmen.
Overall, it was a good place; safe, quality building; almost allgood to excellent teachers. My negative comments are basically regarding her first year transition; it was uphill from there.
Counselors seemed to REALLY step up to help juniors & seniors transition to post high school...Lots of counseling, mentoring. At graduation, just about every hs grad seemed to have a plan (military, apprenticeship, college ).
