Save your money! I heavily researched whether to enroll my 5th and 7th graders in public or private school when we moved to Kailua 2 years ago. I decided on private and was very let down. Took the kids out of private school 4 months into the year, and enrolled them in the assigned schools for our neighborhood. The have done great, gotten a good education, and have experienced none of the problems I'd heard about in public schools. Why did I take them out of private school? They spent less time learning and more time in meaningless, irrelevant, school activities like seasonal "shows", had too many days off for silly things, and there seemed to be an inordinate amount of teacher absences. The electives were ridiculous - like what you'd get at summer camp. I also substitute teach at several private and public Kailua schools, and I can say without a doubt, that public schools in Kailua have gotten a bum rap, and that with the exception of one private school in Kailua (Le Jardin), the rest are a huge waste of money.
