Hi EllasDad - I have been wondering the same thing. We have a 1st Grader at Grace Baptist Christian School. However, we would prefer to have him in a free public school. We're paying for private school & he's more advanced than a large majority of the other students. When we interviewed with Grace, they informed us that he would received additional assignments, have challenging reading books (since he was reading at age 4), etc. None of that has happened. We are strongly considering a public elementary school for 2nd Grade and higher. Ok...here is the information that I've gathered thus far - top elementary schools in Powder Springs are Kemp, Still, Vaughn & Varner. Due West is exceptional as well (smaller student body and lower student-teacher ratios), but it isn't actually in Powder Springs. Kemp received a School of Excellence award for this school term as well as an overall CRCT score of over 90% during last year's school term. Still's scores are also great. BUT - scores aren't the only factors when it comes to GREAT SCHOOLS. My husand & I toured all of the above and we were impressed with the administration, some of the Teahers (appeared happy & excited), cleanliness of school, parental involvement, diversity as it relates to racial make-up/gifted program(s)/curriculum. We are in the Powder Springs Elementary School Zone/District, but we weren't pleased after our meeting there. We will have to put our house on the market to prepare for next year. If you have received add'l information, please share it with me. I may have given you TMI...:-) Talk with you later.
