I agree that Catholic schools are expensive but I think that St. Joseph's is about 6K vs. something like Walker School which is more than twice that. I would love to hear from parents at these schools to see why they feel this is a better choice than moving to the top-rated public school districts.
I am a Catholic, so I have very strong views on the private, Catholic schools in this area. In short, I would not consider sending my children. Not because the schools are not great schools, but because I believe Catholic schools should be just that - open to everyone who is Catholic. The schools are so expensive for the average student that many of us just can't afford them. The decision of whether or not to send your children to parochial school is very personal. I struggle with the fact that my children are not in a Christian setting. My children are young and I may at some point change my mind depending on how things go, but as far as the education my children get, I am confident that they are receiving as strong a foundation as they would get at a parochial or private school. I don't want to say what school we attend, but I know parents from all over this area and I can say with confidence that most of the parents I know are happy with their children's education at Timber Ridge, Tritt, Mount Bethel, East Side, Addison, Shallowford Falls, and Murdock. Hope this helps.
East Cobb Schools in and around the area are excellent, but they are still public schools. You only get out of it what you put into it. What you will get here is motivated parents and a staff who knows that parents have higher expectations than the norm. You also have a competitive student population which can help motivate your child to do better or can discourage a child who struggles. I love it here, and I believe my children are getting the best possible education short of going the private route.
East Cobb schools have a great reputation but some say that it's just hype.
