The Wood Acres School offers a terrific preschool. Children enjoy big, bright classrooms full of great puzzles, blocks, and centers. And the teachers are truly phenomenal!!
KinderCare at the corner of East Piedmont Road and Sandy Plains Road in Marietta was wonderful for my daughter. She started there after attending a 1/2 day Church Preschool and was in in-home care as well. She blossomed doing a full-day there as the class size was medium (15 or less) and she was allowed to interact with other age kids in the afternoons. All the staff almost immediately calling us by name, and their Center was small enough not to feel like a "kid factory." When she moved into one of their state-funded PreK classrooms, it was wonderful.
The Wee School Preschool at Johnson Ferry Baptist Church is excellent. Their focus is more a developmental one--not pushing "academics" before a child is developmentally ready. Their class sizes are very small and the day is only 9:30-1:00. I prefer the 1:00 release time to the 12:00 and 12:30 times at other schools around here because they pack and eat their lunches at school. Both of mine have been totally ready for nap after school, so we don't have to try to squeeze in a lunch when they're tired. They offer a variety of schedules 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, and 5-day programs. It is a Christian school and they teach Bible stories and principles to the little ones alongside regular preschool stuff like shapes, colors, numbers and letters. I really like how much effort they put into teaching the kids how to get along with each other, be friends, and treat others with kindness and respect. Both of my kids genuinely have felt loved by their teachers and look forward to going there. The facility is bright and clean, nothing like the "church basements" of other schools around here. The price is also extremely reasonable. This is my fourth year as a Wee School parent. I couldn't be happier.
