I have many reasons to not like the PUBLIC school system in Douglasville, BUT as far as preschool, Sheltering Arms pre-k program is the best! I couldn't believe how wonderful they were to my son. He was shy and had never attended daycare so it was a major adustment. They learn through play and when he graduated (yes, they had a dress up graduation for them), he met all kindergarten requirements and was unbelievably confident. He's now 8 and still visits his pre-k teachers because they were so great and loving towards him. They have the most modern equipment, it's safe and well-structured. When I had a hard day at work & picked my son up, I would sit in the classroom to just talk to the teachers because the rooms are so kid-friendly and peaceful. They encourage independence as well as academics and to see them actually help serve meals is hilarious. I didn't know my son could pour milk or clear his plate and utensils from the dinnertable until he did it one day, I was shocked. They taught him to be self-reliant and dependable. He started just before his 4th birthday. He learned so many skills and field day, the last day with bouncers, food, tricycles, water tables, a clown, activities, and a poster sized memory page of pictures of things they've done throughout the year (for each child) made me cry. I still have it as my keepsake and they even gave him his own first bicycle helmet. EVERY person from the teachers, helpers, office staff, kitchen staff are so helpful and wonderful with the kids. I'm a tough sell when it comes to my kids safety and I never had a single moment of concern. When I left him to go to work, I never had to worry about him and he didn't even want to come home at the end of the day because the school is that great and the kids are just real sweeties to each other. Science and nature are also explored in the classroom.
The school is off of Fairburn Rd. in Douglasville and sits next to (down the road a bit) from the bowling alley. With all that's happened this school year, I still miss it.
It is just outside of Douglasville. It is WInston Academy in Winston, GA right off of the Post Rd exit on I-20. It has ABEKA Pre-K and at the age of 4 my child was having weekly spelling tests! They were even startig to write in cursive. It is a structured curriculum and Christain based. I adored it!
