Have you found a better school? My son had VI, however, he has been able to be mainstreamed. He does have a specialized teacher come into the school twice a month. I've found the more I'm involved with the school the better the treatment of the children. Although, since I've had to go back to work, I haven't been able to stay as involved with the school. I still manange to attend all of the field trips, and I try to keep in close contact with his teacher via e-mails. I feel your pain, you just have to try to stay on top of what your child needs, and be the mom who doesn't stop until you get what you need. Does your child have an IEP?
Gilchrist is not a good school if your child has any type of learning issues. Their ESE program leaves alot to be desired as well as the teacher's willingness to put forth the effort it takes to help these children succeed. If your child has no learning issues then Gilchrist would probably be the best school.
Gilchrist Elementary is a very good elementary school. Is it perfect? Absoultey not, but what school is. We have a very involved parent volunteer system, which I am a part of. Also, a very involved PTO that bring in lots of money and therefore lots of great perks for the children, that other schools just don't have. I just started working at another "A" school in the area, and I tell you there's no comparasion. A lot of the children at this school have little or no respect for adults, and the language they use shows little or no concern for proper English. Working at another school really gave me a new appreciation for Gilchrist. I'm glad my son is in 3rd grade at Gilchrist.
