For Jefferson County Public Schools enrollment starts in early January for the following August for elementary schools. It seems very early but that is how they do it. One can try to enroll in schools that are not their neighborhood school during that time. It is called Choice enrollment. GreatSchools.com is an excellent way to compare schools. Check the school district's site for details.
