Golden Independent School is great because it's a small, caring community. Parents help each other with everything from carpools to lunches to helping each other's children learn. If a child is doing something unsafe during drop-off/pick-up time, another child's parent will help by saying something to the child; at other schools there would be gossip about that "bad" kid misbehaving again, or "weak" rules that are never enforced, or some other criticism for perfectly normal child behavior. That means that parents are unwilling to take responsibility. At Golden Independent, the main goal is growing responsible (and knowledgable, and skillful, and creative) citizens, not learning to obey. It helps that everyone knows everyone else.
