I have to agree with SapperCS on most of the school districts. District 11 isn't so bad though. I actually moved my child from Dist 49 to Dist 11. He has a learning disability which D49 would not recognize nor give accomodations for. D11 isn't great but they have alot of options for students with special needs. I have found that alot of the districts with the highest rating aren't really interested in kids who aren't high achievers.
From my experience and communication with many parents who kids attend my kids schools, here is my take on the local school districts:
Best is Cheyenne Mt, District 12. Ive heard very little negative about the district as a whole, and the charter school up there is one of the best in the state.
Worst has got to be Colorado Springs District 11, this is a small town district that has incorporated all the horrible policies of the larger inner city districts from around the country. I had my kids there up to the third grade, and I moved north only to get them to District 20 and out of 11.
Close grouping to District 11 would be Widefield 3, and Fountian 8. I have heard plenty negatives about both, and few positives (Except sports, both are good sport districts).
The outlying areas are trying to do well, many follow the model of D20 and distance themselves from D11. Those would be Harrison D2, Falcon D49, Manitu D14, and Palmer D38. These are more rural districts, so if you like that, pursue these districts.
My choice for diversity, parent involvement, smaller district size, and better test scores is of course District 20. As I stated, I moved to get my kids into D20 and have been very pleased with my decision.
Cheyenne Mountain Schools in D-12 on the southwest side have excellent ratings and reputations. The culture and socio-economic mix is slightly different for each one, but the academics are strong in each. Teacher-student ratio, especially in elementary, is excellent.
Pikes Peak Christian School has an excellent reputation in Colorado Springs. This school is fully acreditted and has a low student to teacher ratio.
