I live in Sunland and actually posted a response some time back about the schools in Sunland.

The question is a little flawed in that you probably already realize that in Sunland there is only one district, LAUSD. I'm not sure what your neighborhood school is, or what grade level you're looking for, but there are options: magnet, open enrollment, SAS, and charter to name a few.
Let me know a few more specifics (grade level, how far you're willing to drive) and I'll see what help I can offer. I'm just down the 118 a bit from you and my daughter uses open enrollment and my son just graduated from a nearby magnet. It can be done.
