The Newhall School District returned to a standard (i.e., NOT year round) schedule approximately five years ago -- they opened two new schools when DD entered the third grade, relieving the over-crowding that necessitated a year-round schedule.
Hart is a good school, however, the physical campus needs a lot of work -- this has been something of a scandal in our community and it's a campus where my daughter will NOT be going for this reason.
Why we have several elementary school districts and a single high school district is something I haven't ferreted out, yet. I think it has to do with real estate development in this area over the past 25 years.
Personally, I would like to see a unified district, unification of the districts would leave approximately 20 elementary schools and cut down on high-level administrative costs.
Hart's football team usually puts others to shame too. :) I know it's not all about sports, but it's always a source of pride for the kids if their team kicked the other teams in the rear. The year my son's team went to the all-city championships was a BIG deal.
My husband has a long-time friend who lives in the district of Hart High School. Their daughter graduated this year and is on to college in Illinois. Their son is a sophmore there this year. It's one of the best high schools in that district. Their band participated in a national competition and placed very high. The band instructor is a fanatic, but very good.
Are any of the schools in Newhall School District still year-round? I know that was one of the issues people had for awhile, but I hadn't heard about it for some time, so I wondered if they were all on traditional track now.
I'm always trying to get my head around school districts that have separate districts for the high school (I know Stevenson Ranch isn't the only one), but it just seems so different to me. Is there a rationale for it?
If you're referring to precisely Stevenson Ranch, California, then there are two school districts:
The elementary school district is the Newhall School District. It's good and has several California Distinguished Schools.
The high school district is the William S. Hart Union High School District.
In both districts, students tend to score highly on the annual tests and overall, I've been pretty happy with them.
Many people move to this area for the schools.
