I can only speak to kindergarten enrollment.

Every January, SSFUSD sponsors a Kindergarten night as a resource for parents. Enrolling in elementary school is by neighborhood, but for middle and high school, I believe it's a lottery system, like SFUSD.

Parents can opt out of their neighborhood school and request a transfer, if they're interested in an elementary school from another neighborhood. Kindergarten registration is generally from February until May.

I highly encourage parents not to solely rely on parent reviews and API scores. Tour the schools and experience it first-hand. You know your child best and what will be the best match for him/her.
