Hacienda School is a great middle school in Pleasanton, CA. Right now there are only 7 kids in grades 6-8, all in the same classroom. The math and language arts are individualized to the grade but the other topics are group taught including Band, Chinese and Spanish. Because of the small class size the kids can focus on academics and not have to worry about the social distractions that come with the sometimes awkward pre-teen years. The other great part is because the school also includes grades 1-5, the middle schoolers are adored by the children in the lower grades. You can visibly see the pride, confidence and self-esteem these middle schoolers gain as they become the mentors and role models to the younger children.
I personally do not feel my child has been deprived by not attending a larger public institution. My middle school experience was one of insecurities due to bullying, teasing and clicks. I am glad that my child can indulge his growing awareness of the world around him in an environment of trust.
Outside activities like sports, music and dance allow these middle schoolers at Hacienda School to interact and form friendships with kids their own age.
