Glendale has a cap on the number of students that can be in each school. When I enrolled my son in the school that was closest (although much less convenient), he was in school for a week, when Monday morning I got a phone call at work and was told I had to pick up my son because he was not enrolled at that school anymore. I was beside myself! Luckily, the school district was very helpful in finding me a new school. My son is very pleased with the new school, it is much more convenient, has strong parent involvement, and is just a really good school. It turned out to be a much better school.
In my experience they send you to the closest school. If you want to transfer they tell you that it is possible but you need a valid reason. Interest in your childs education and emotional well being are of no interest to this school district and not valid reason enough to transfer. In fact if you have a child who would normally be put into a high functioning class or gifted program in the LA system, you can forget it in Glendale. There are also no Charter schools here.
