I didn't know a soul out here, so I did the investigating myself.
I called several schools that suited my needs in terms of curriculum, location, and price. Then, I physically went to the schools that still interested me. I asked how long the staff had been there and about their inspection records. If the director is new and so are all of the teachers, that's a no-go. After choosing a school, I took my child there for about an hour and stayed out of sight. I did that a few times before dropping him off for a whole day.
If you want curriculum, and not just baby-sitting, it is very expensive to send your child full time 5 days/wk.
