We looked for a good elementary school and then which preschools feed it. Tucson has only one good Elementary school, the International School of Tucson, so choosing its preschool was a no-brainer. So far, all is better than we expected - fun, play, academics, high standards, art, music, chess, sports, students and teachers from all over the world, and above all language immersion. We chose German but they also have French and Spanish with Chinese planned. Choose a school which suits your kids and don't be afriad to visit many before making your choice.

Originally we had planned for our preschooler to go to a local Montessori school. I even camped out in snow to enroll him!

They told me during the enrollment process (after we paid our deposit) that they don't allow the children to wear diapers and that they must be potty trained and self sufficient in the bathroom. I also learned that there was a 1 time forgiveness policy but after that if an accident happened, the child would be expelled.

My husband and I thought about it and worked with our son to get him potty trained, but 3 months away, we could see he was digressing and we knew he was not going to be "fully self sufficient" at the start of the year.

That's when we heard of another preschool that is NOT a daycare, as many are. We knew it was a good school, so we interviewed them, sent him for a couple weeks during their summer program as a test run and he loved it. So we enrolled him for the school year (which is all year, not just the typical 9 months).

We looked for potty training, a very caring staff, a fun school with quality education and what we got was a whole lot more than that! It's expensive, but worth every cent.

We are thrilled with our choice so far. He's thriving and he loves it there. There is art, music & singing, swimming, drama, exercise, lots of play time, naps for the kids who take them (your child is not forced to take one though), and lots of love and education. He's even beginning to learn his alphabet song! He LOVES to sing. (A child after my own heart)
