Hi Fullofhope,
While we don't have a group specifically for mentors I think that the groups Healthy11 pointed you to will benefit from your insights and experiences as a mentor and hopefully you can benefit from the insights of the parents. Welcome to the forum!
I'm surprised the United Way/Communities doesn't offer some kind of online network for you to share concerns with others in their program, but since you are talking about assisting a Middle Schooler, I'd like to suggest that you join Greatschools Middle School Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11528. If the student has academic issues, the Learning and Attention Difficulties Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11554 is a great place to get advice.
Thanks Healthy! I recently became a mentor to a middle school student (6th grade) through United Way/Communities in Schools. So school-based mentorship addressing any concerns or problems the students have ranging from academic to life strategies. The school's Student Advocate is very knowledgeable and helpful, but it would be nice to have a forum that discusses problems/issues encountered by mentors and how they have handled certain situations. Thanks again!
Hi. There are a multitude of groups on Greatschools, but it's not clear what kind of mentoring you're talking about. Are you speaking about some kind of "Big Brother/Big Sister" program, as might be of particular benefit to kids in a single parent household? Are you talking about career mentoring, aimed more at older high school students? If you could share more information, we can try to better direct you.
