My son is in Hillsoborough county schools. I was concerned at first as well but they do have recess it is just not called that. They have PE classes and Teacher PE. These are structured play times with games and races but they do allow socilization as well. There are issues with bullying in the schools around here and there has been a big push to avoid allowing that sort of thing to happen. Recess, or free play, often gave bullies ample time to pick a victim. However, teacher supervised PE works great. The kids get exercise and avoid trouble in the classroom. They definately keep the kids moving that pent up energy is never an issue! Voice your opinion and speak to your principal. I can tell you that at least at our school, Alafia, the principal has an open door policy and you should receive ample information! I hope that helped you out!

Have you spoken with the school about your concerns? Personally, I cannot imagine being a teacher in an elementary school without any recess time. Trying to control a classroom with kids who have no outlet for their energy would be a challenge. I would hope the school has some plans in place to address your concerns.
