How do I accurately compare schools in different states

Anonymous
We're going through a divorce; I'm in VA and she's in OH. I want to compare (VA & OH) school test results to determine which school is best. Any help would be appreciated.

There is at present no way to accurately compare schools. As a nation, we've just begin to consider valid ways in which schools' can be judged. If the schools were in the same states, you could get hold of their results on the state tests but the results of such tests now only show what we've long known - schools in richer areas have students who do better on tests.

Indeed, that's the only statistic that does work - if you have to choose between schools and if you choose the school in the more affluent area, that school's test scores will be better. And on every test. State tests, SATS, ACTS.

I am in the same boat. I am in Indiana and his kids are in Ohio. We have 1 together and thinking about making a transition. I do not have a good answer but I can tell you that I called the department of education and they recommended I print off what the state requires. I did not find it very helpful as what is required to be turned in and what is actually taught in each school can be totally different. I was hoping to find people from the areas I am looking at on this site. So far I see more west coast information.
