Skipping a grade

prisamaro
I have a Kindergartner that was assessed and has the option to skip Kindergarten and start 1st grade. What are the PROs and CONs based on "actual" experiences. I need some feedback to make a decision. Thank you

I think it's great that your school is giving you an option now, rather than waiting. I skipped in the middle of 3rd grade to the middle of 4th grade, and the only regret I have is that my parents didn't do it sooner. Skipping ahead in higher grades may be okay for very bright students in terms of academics, but it is hard from the standpoint of friendships, because social groups are usually in place by 4th grade, and "new kids in class" aren't always welcomed.

If you go to the upper right-hand corner of this page, you'll see a box that says "Search Community by Keyword" and if you enter the word "Skipping" you'll find several previous discussions on the topic. Please read them all, because even in cases where people ask about skipping in different grades, there is a good exchange of feedback, pro and con, like in this thread: community.greatschools.net/q-and-a/224955/When-should-a-child-skip-first-grade?cpage=6#comment_234806
