If you feel your son would be "behind" in preschool without classes beforehand, is it due to some kind of speech delay or suspected learning difficulty? If so, then you might want to speak to his doctor, and see if there are any "Early Childhood" types of programs in your community. Kids who are identified with special needs can get services even prior to age 3. After age 3, children would receive services through the local elementary school district, but you would have to request an evaluation through them for the suspected learning difficulties.
