Does the school have to pay for dyslexia program since they have no teachers trained in dyslexia?

semonurse
If the IEP states my son needs instruction by a certified teacher in one of two nationally known dyslexia programs and they have none, then do they have to pay for him to go to one? I have found an intensive 2-3 week program but he would have to be out of school for that time.

well, my son has Dyslexia(moderate) to make it more difficult he also has several APD-AUDITORY PROCESSING DYSFUNCTION, the system of the public school has not demonstrated to me that they care or are willing to help. my son is suffering the consequences. i am about to sell my house and move, i am seeking help from professional , there is a school in Broward just for APD AND DYSLEXIA kids. Public schools and teachers are not prepare or willing to learn how to give the right education to this kids. My son is 8 and still does not knows how to read or write, has a very low vocabulary skills. and the school keep saying it's ok..MY DEPRESSION IS BEYOND THE LINE..Tire of asking for help TO School District. Tire of the bad systems, tire of the lack of support and the bounce around.. I wish to have the power to present my case to President Obama. Our kids NEEDS A CHANGE IN THE SYSTEMS OF EDUCATION, FOR A BETTER FUTURE, our Learning Disabilities kids has the same right of GETTING A GOOD EDUCATION and be able to Graduate.

I'm not a lawyer, but if your son's IEP states a specific program, and the school has no trained teacher, then they either have to get a teacher trained in it, or you probably do have some leverage in requesting that they pay for your son to get it elsewhere....
You might want to ask a special ed attorney or advocate that question, and you can find ones through www.copaa.org/find/index.php
