Please visit or call the Fourth Street School at www.fourthstreetschool.com or 817.275.2314. They are located in Arlington and they cater to students with special needs. There students range from Pk-9th grade. In addition to the educational component of the school, they also have therapy sessions (in the school day) twice a week.

I feel badly for both your daughter and the teacher who tried to assist you, only to be ostracized by others at the school. It does sound as if it would be very difficult to overcome the prejudice that apparently already exists towards your family, and unless the current administrators change, I have a feeling that won't be easy. I wish I could recommend legal action against the school, but in practice, hiring an attorney cost you more money and time, and would still leave feelings of ill will. I do think you should contact your local www.autismspeaks.org representatives, and see if they can offer any advice. You might also join Greatschools Educational Violations Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/77570 because the leader of that group may have some suggestions.

I am looking for a public school or charter school. My daughter is six and in first grade. She has been coming home from school telling me that her teacher yells at her all day and she gets a stomach ache. She got along fine with most of the children in her class at the beginning but told me that her teacher is mean to her in front of the other kids and now they are mean to her too. I realize that you can't take everything that a six year old tells you literally however, her kindergarten teacher from last year told my husband and I that we should be concerned because my daughter's teacher this year has a reputation for yelling at the kids. My daughter's teacher this year also bragged to this other teacher about how she mocked my daughter in front of the entire class. She bragged about it as though she was proud of it. MY husband and I went to the principal and asked for a new teacher. WE never told her where we got the information from but she figured it out and now none of the first grade teachers will talk to the teacher that gave us the information. She told me that she is in alot of trouble and can't talk to us about it anymore or she may lose her job. I don't know what to make of this. I am thinking that we will have to change schools. The last thing this teacher told us is that all of the first grade teachers know about the situation with my daughter and they do not like us at all. I am blown away by the entire situation and have been in shock all week. Any suggestions?

Hi. I'm not from CO, but I have a child with some special needs. Are you looking for a public or private school? What grade level? I always recommend that parents try to contact a local support group for whatever LD their child has, and network through families in their community to find out about the best schools and other resources in the area. If you haven't already, I'd try to contact your local chapter of www.autismspeaks.org Greatschools also offers an asperger's/autism group for online support at community.greatschools.net/groups/18940
