Yes, find out immediately where early intervention is in your area. Most pediatricians know. Get in the program now! you only have until your child is at least 1 month before or more maybe that you are able to get in. They have the speech and language and occupational therapy there. They will help you in every way. Then you can go into the school system with some type of relief knowing that they have to take over with the school systems providing speech and language and occupational therapy for your child. It is very hard to get into without some kind of diagnosis even if it is only delays. I hope this has helped you.

No, Early intervention is better all around. Any parent that has ever had their child in Early intervention will tell you it is the best thing they have ever done and glad they did. There are a wealth of programs that your child can get help with. Also, your child has the privilege to go to pre-school and the school system pay’s instead of you trying to figure out some way to get the help you need
Financially and emotionally for your child now, and when they turn three. They are able to get advanced training in school so they can be ready for pre-school, kindergarten and 1st grade. So seriously think about your decision. NO early intervention, then you will have a very hard time getting your child into any kind of programs without fighting with the school system. You still have to fight with them but not as hard because you have had the proof all along. Always remember you have to control of the school system not them of your child. They work for you and your child. So let them work it out and tell them in a respectful way this is what you want and there is no room for discussions unless they have already have another plan that is better. And you want to hear it and don’t give them a decision right there and then. Let them know you are taking home the info. And discussing it with the family. Then look up all your information on it and then make your decision if it is ok or not for your child. Also early intervention will work with you in deciding what doctors your child needs and also help you to work with your own pediatrician in what questions to ask the doctor. and what to ask for. Especially if you have to get a referral first from your doctor to see a specialist. Don't forget you are your Childs advocate NO ONE ELSE. Always remember if you do not feel comfortable with a certain person on the early intervention team let them know and they will change the person for you. Don’t worry what they might think. Think about how this person is going to help my child. Everyone has a different personality and not everyone gets along, so just watch and listen very carefully on what is happening so you can become the pro of your own child. Practice makes perfect they say. Do what you need now and it will pay off in the long run. I hope this has helped you.

Hi. Unfortunately, Greatschools is a nationwide forum, and we don't know where you're located. Have you asked your child's pediatrician for recommendations? If your child has been identified as having difficulties already, then most communities have age 0-3 Early Education resources for families, and your child may qualify to get services through them. From age 3-5, your local elementary school district should provide the remediation services. Again, I'd start with your child's pediatrician, and go from there.
