There was this kid running down the hallway, knocking a kid over my son and my son ended up breaking his wrist

casinodealer14
My question is: Do schools have insurance on their students in case of an accident? I missed worked due to been in the ER getting his wrist x-rayed and casted and NO ONE paid me for missing my hrs at work. What kind of disciplinary actions for running down the hallway and causing another student to break their arm?

I would have expected the school to have given you a written incident report regarding the occurrence. You should send a written letter to the principal, and copy the School District Superintendent, asking for the detailed report, if that has not been provided yet.
As Magnetmom said, if there was a specific intent to harm, the other student would probably be liable, or if you can prove that there was inadequate supervision, perhaps the school would have some financial responsibility, but sometimes accidents just happen.
My son at one point suffered a scratched cornea in his eye, when a classmate "shot" a staple across the table. Supposedly, it was an accident, since the other kid claimed the stapler had been jammed, and was holding it open and "fiddling" with it. My son said the other kid aimed it at him. I'm not sure where the teacher was in all of this, but I also missed work to take my son to the doctor, and we went through a some follow-up visits to be sure everything healed properly. I hope your son's arm heals well, too.

I'm not sure what the laws are in Missouri, but in California when school starts every year, they send home an offer to purchase additional accident insurance. They're not liable even in the case of sporting events. I suppose if a parent could prove the school encouraged kids to break the rules, there might be some liability, but this sounds like an accident.

Sadly, the missing work is a function of being a parent.

But if you have concerns, contact the school and seek the advise of a lawyer. If the boy who originally knocked the boy into your son had some intent to cause harm there might be a way to talk to his parents, but I'd get all the info from the school first.

Several parents on this site also recommend www.lawguru.com for situations that require legal advice.

Good luck. I know these are the parts of parenting no one ever warns you about. Let us know what happens.
