From the second day of school my son has not had a teacher, okay he's had a sub. Once I called to find out what the deal was I was told that the teacher had resigned and that the school is waiting for the district to assign another and who knows how long the wait could be. My whole thing is, no one has sent a note home or anything so it's like the school is keeping this a secret of some sort. When my son comes home and I ask who his teacher was for the day, he tells me that it was Ms. J, whom of which is the T.A. Last week when I went to the school the sub there told me that he's basically just there and that he hadn't been given lesson plans or anything to teach to the students. Who do I talk to about this? The Asst. principle was the one who told me that their waiting for the school district. What am I supposed to do while we're waiting? Isn't there something that can be done?

What grade is your child in? Are there any other parents who you know in his class, who can go with you to speak with the principal? Unless it's a budgetary issue, and the school has no money allocated by the district to the position, I would think the principal can make hiring decisions for their own school. Write a letter and elevate the problem to the School District Superintendent if the principal is unresponsive or the answer you've been given is vague or unclear.

Well we recently moved here from California and I don't know anyone here. I don't even think the other parents know what's going on. My son is in the fourth grade. It's almost as if their trying to keep it a secret because if I had not gone up there I too would have no idea.

MJenkins-Lopez, I would recommend a couple of things..Definitely send a letter to the Superintendent, and you might also try to find out who the local PTA president is, and how to contact that person. Give them a call, and tell them you're new to the area. Ask if there's a "student directory" that will be published, so you can find out who else is in your child's class. See if they can give you any ideas about how the local district operates, and if they ask you to volunteer for something at the school, I'd say do it, so you can find out more about what else is going on...
