What response did you want from your meeting, if an apology wasn't going to be enough? What was the response of the principal when the PE teacher said he would break your son's finger?
As I mentioned earlier, if you aren't happy with the principal's response, next step is to contact the School District Superintendent. Document what took place, including the newest events, and send the letter to the Superintendent, requesting a meeting with him or her.

The type of comment that was made by the PE teacher is definitely not appropriate. Does your school district have a written anti-bullying policy? It shouldn't just be to prevent student-to-student bullying, or student-to-teacher bullying, but also teacher-to student bullying.

The proper way to handle a situation like that is to document, in writing, the details of what happened in a letter to the principal. You need to be as unemotional as possible, and list just the facts, and state what resolution you want. For example,

Dear (Mrs. Principal,)
I am writing to you about an incident involving my son, (name), who is a 6th grader at your school. On (date) in P.E. class, the teacher (Mr. XYZ) made verbal comments that were inappropriate, and I believe they constitute disregard of the school district's policies about bullying. Mr. XYZ told my son that, "You're not going to make it. I knew your dad." My son is NOT his dad, and Mr. XYZ's remarks show a preconceived bias exists. My son is a very good student academically, and he is working to reduce his weight issues. To make comments that demean a student in front of classmates does not encourage anyone. I am requesting that my son be changed to another teacher's P.E. class. Sincerely, (your name)

If the principal doesn't respond in a timely manner, you can send a copy of your original letter to the School District Superintendent (the Principal's boss) and request a meeting on the topic.

FYI, it's considered rude to use all capital letters on forums and when writing correspondence to people...it's seen as SHOUTING, so if you're able to use both capital and small letters, here on Greatschools and in your note to the school, I think it would be better....

Unless your son's dad is very, very young I find it difficult to believe that many teachers or administrators would still be around from whenever he attended the school. Is your son a good student? Can you share some specific examples of what you mean by "they had it out for him?" What exactly did they say at your meeting? We really need more details in order to advise you about what to do next....
