Would you choose a charter school over a public school?

diegosmama
My son is entering Pre ~K this year. I'm a stay at home mom & he has never attended any type of school before. He has been given the Jackson Mann as a BPS assignment & was chosen by lottery into the Boston Renaissance as well. The charter school is a longer day, the school much bigger, with the commute the day will be 8 hours rather than 6 with the BPS. I think that is too long of a day for a child who has never gone to school before. I fear he will be overwhelmed. Which school would you choose?

probably charter because they are more on point and the kids that attend them the test scores are usually higher.charter schools you have more say in how they run and parents are involved alot more.

It's hard for us to say without knowing your child or the individual schools personally, but will your son have an option to attend the charter school in the future, if you don't accept the opening this year? Have you visited both schools, and talked to other parents who have children at each of them? That's what I'd try to do, then make a decision.
